Not all moms will appreciate this as much as I do, but I'm sure there are some that had the same sleep challenges I have had with Asher.
My husband & I have done tons of research about how babies sleep. We've read books & watched videos & listened to all the tips & advice friends & family have given. My wonderful son was not one of those babies that just slept well, like some of my mommy friends. I've come to learn that if you nurse, you are likely to face some different challenges than formula fed babies.
Long story short... Asher was/is dependent on the bottle for sleep. Call it what you will, It was the only way for him to fall asleep. So, in the middle of the night... When he would wake up, guess what he would cry for? Some nights were better than others, but I've had 2 breaking points since he's been in his crib, where I said, "That's it! I can't take it anymore! I need sleep!"
So for the past 2 months or so we've been preparing him to sleep without the bottle WITHOUT crying it out. We tried removing the bottle from his mouth several times (Pantleys gentle removal plan), we tried a pacifier (he hates it), we tried giving a BIG bottle at the beginning of the night.... Yadda yadda yadda. We've tried it all, and I feel like when I look back at it, we have definitely made progress & it has prepared us for what we went through this weekend.
At some point we weighed the options. We could wait until he's older & grows out of it... Or some form of cry it out. Again... NOT A FAN OF CRY IT OUT!
EVERY THING I read lead to the same conclusion. He needs to learn to put himself to sleep, and guess what... He's not going to like it & will protest. I mean, we all protest change, right?
We are exhausted parents thriving on caffeine & broken up sleep just to get us through the day. Some days I had to have a grandparent come over early so I could sneak away for a nap! I just couldn't imagine myself doing this for another year or even months for that matter. It's affecting my mind, my ability to lose weight & my mood some days. We decided to let him cry.
Like I've said, we've read multiple books on this issue & we decided to not go with once certain method. Instead, we decided we would do what we thought was best for Asher. When I say "we", I mean my husband. He did the hard work.
So we had this plan to start Friday night, but then he slept well 2 nights in a row before that, so we decided to postpone. Then Saturday night, when we were putting him to sleep, his bottle finished & he wasn't asleep yet (daylight savings time messed up his internal clock). He was upset. This rarely happens, but instead of making him another bottle, my husband rolled with it. He stayed in the room with him, reassured him constantly & laid him down. He did this over & over while Asher cried. This cry was more of an upset cry. Clearly, he wasn't hurt &/or didn't feel abandoned. He was just tired and wanted his bottle! He cried for an hour and 45 minutes. I cried myself. I questioned if this was the right thing to do, prayed, everything to get my mind off of it but I couldn't. It was much harder for me then it was for my husband. After all the crying & wondering if he would ever go to sleep, he fell asleep. That night he slept 4 hours and 27 minutes straight. Now, I know this doesn't seem like a long time for most of you, but our son was waking every 2ish hours, so 4 hours and I was ready to take on the day! We didn't let him cry again. Instead we gave him a small 2oz bottle of water, left the room & he fell asleep. He only woke one more time that night.
The next night we sleep trained, hubby gave him his bedtime bottle then cried when it was done. This is new for him because we have been cutting his bottles down to practically water & 3oz at the most. But guess what? He only cried for 30 minutes! And even better news than that... he slept for 7 hours & 21 minutes! That is a record for him! He woke up crying once, more like a whimper, not full on cry, but stayed in our room & he fell back asleep. This is so doable! Even if it stayed like this, I could function properly! However, I know if we continue, he will eventually be sleeping straight & I can get my sleep back! I am so thrilled!
I hate to admit that every one was right about crying it out, but it's true. I think there are some methods that are harder than others for your little one and you have to find what's right for you & your family. I knew there was no way we could just leave him in his room to cry. But my husband staying with him the whole time and letting him know everything is okay was the best thing. I know he didn't feel abandoned or unloved at any time. I can't thank him enough for being the strong one.
I will update as we continue to teach my son how to sleep.

CAMP DO MORE STARTS TODAY!!!
Oh man oh man! I can't tell you how excited I am! Today starts 3 days at Camp Do More! What is Camp do more you ask? Here's an explanation in a nutshell:
Camp Do More is self improvement and personal development disguised as a party! Think motivational lectures, super fun workouts, an entertaining fashion show, an off the hook dance party, friendships, inspiration, and MORE!
Inspiration and Motivation to Last a Lifetime!
Join Chalene Johnson, New York Times Best-Selling Author of “Push: 30 Days to Turbocharged Habits, a Bangin’ Body, and the Life You Deserve” for a once in a lifetime experience at Camp Do More!
Get the Motivation, Tools, and Accountability You Need to Achieve Anything You Set Your Mind to and Have a Blast Doing It! DO MORE at Chalene Johnson’s Camp Do More!
Chalene Johnson is one of my biggest fitness inspiration, next to Jillian Michaels. When I was about 19-20 years old, I started taking this class called Turbo Kick at 24 Hour Fitness. I fell in love! It was the best workout I could get in 60 minutes without feeling like I was "working out." One day, my instructor was being evaluated, and the evaluator approached me after class and told me I had great form & I should look into instructing. Of course I was too chicken to do anything like that, so I brushed it off. But that moment had always stayed in the back of my mind.
Years had gone by and I was a yo-yo dieter/ gym attendee. I gained/lost and could never be consistent with anything. Then I gained a lot of weight. So, I went back to the gym, and took my trustee Turbo kick class. That was always my go-to.
I started to do some research on fitness programs because I needed to lose this weight and I came across something called Beachbody. So I looked up the products & found Chalene Johnson! I went to her sight & saw she was a sort of like, a life coach. She inspired me so much & all her motivation to live an all around healthy life was right up my alley. I love talking about that kind of stuff. Little did I know that SHE was the one who created the Turbo Kick class that I loved at 24 Hour Fitness! It took me years to find her, lol, but it was like fate. I loved Turbo Kick even more after I found this great person who was behind it.
Going back to my Turbo Kick classes at the gym (years later), led me to do her home video TurboFire, which then led me to really concentrate on my health and join Weight Watchers which led to 35 pounds gone!
So that's my story of how I was introduced to Chalene....well, kinda.
But back to Camp Do More! I've never been able to go, because it is a little expensive, has always been in Orange County & I didn't have any "fit" friends. I kept telling myself I was going to save money for it but it never happened. Then of course you know, I got certified as a Turbo Kick instructor and went into the fitness direction of my career, so I made a choice that I was going to go! And of course this is they year that it's in VEGAS! My hometown!
Here's a clip of what it looks like:
We are separated in football teams & I am on the Broncos. If you know me, you know I know nothing about football, so I literally had to google to see what our colors are. I did some shopping and came up with some good stuff.
My best find was that "My skills never end" T-shirt at Wal-Mart in the boys section for $3! I love when I find something for cheap!
Good thing workout clothes are light, because there are going to be 6 workouts including a PJ Piyo. I just rolled up all my favorite tops & pants & put them in here. I'll decide later. Oh, and of course I can't forget snacks.
I had to pick some healthy ones because I will be rooming with health nuts, lol. I still don't consider myself a health nut. When I think of staying on the strip, the first thing that comes to mind is all the good food I can get. I'm a fat kid at heart that's for sure :)
So, that's a little about camp do more. I need to finish packing and come up with a plan on how I can get a picture with Chalene. See ya when I get back home. Tootles!

I can blog from my phone!
I feel very "techy" right now because I am blogging from my phone! Cool huh? Anyway, I am in my second week at the kickboxing gym full time & let me tell you.... I am SORE! Specifically my legs. I started working out again (not kickboxing) and I did a home video called TURBO FIRE. So, I'm not sure if the soreness is from the video or just teaching classes.
That's not what this post is for. Since my schedule change, I have been trying to get into a routine with my eating and I'm happy to say this week has been a good week. In fact, this morning I woke up & could see a little definition in my stomach.
It really is true what they say: Abs are made in the kitchen. I can do ab work all day, but the only days I see definition is when I've eaten clean for a week or so. There's hope! I will not give up on my goal to have abs. I won't give up! Hold me accountable, okay? Oh, and P.S. Victorias Secret semi-annual sale is going on right now which is where I bought that super cute sports bra for only $17!! Woo! I love me a good deal!

Here we go again....update.
Well, another update. It's been a whole year since my last post. Too funny. And let me tell you, A LOT has changed! I'm going to summarize this with bullet points, since that goes along with my type A personality ;)
I really can't tell you how happy I am with this transition. I never disliked my full time job until I started teaching at the gym. After that, it was becoming so hard to concentrate at work when all I wanted to do was be somewhere else.
Now, I have freed up my schedule (I was working 56-60 hours a week) and I am doing something I enjoy. I literally just let out a huge sigh of relief when I wrote that. God has ben so good to me & has given me more than what my heart desired. I am overflowing!
So what's next???
If you know me, you know I am always working toward something and trying to achieve something. I am going to enjoy my time at home for awhile. There are a lot of projects that have been put on the back burner because of my busy life. Then, within the next year or so, I would like to work toward getting my personal training certificate and some kind of nutrition certification. Ultimately, I want to help people reach their fitness goals and feel like I feel! So, keep posted with me because I'm going to be blogging a lot more now that I have more time. Oh! And don't forget to "Like" my facebook page HERE for all the health/fitness tips you need during the week! Take Care.

Four years ago yesterday, I was at Carnival Court with my friends & Barry and that night I had decided that I was going to stop being stubborn and hurt and officially make the decision to "date" Barry. We had already been seeing each other & hanging out for two and a half months but I was too scared to start a relationship with anyone because of my past hurts.
You see, that same day, 1 year before I was engaged to my high school sweetheart and he broke off our wedding and relationship 2 months before our wedding day. I was devastated as you can imagine. Not going to go into that.
Little did I know that God had something in store for me. And I never imagined it would be someone I dated 3 years prior. And definitely didn't imagine he would've come so quickly.
So that evening at Carnival Court, I decided to replace the bad memory of June 14 with a better one. The day I knew I was going to take that last step forward and never look back. I am proud to say I did that and my life is better than I ever imagined it could be. Everything fell into place perfectly after I made that decision. Two months after that decision, I knew in my heart I was going to marry that man. Our life together has been wonderful. He is my bestest friend and I love spending my time with him. He makes me laugh and he will do anything to make me happy.
So, in closing, my good friend Antwone was right that night when he said," That's a good look for you." That's all the approval I needed :)

Looking young
So tonight I taught a Turbo kick class and the instructor who taught before me decided she would stay for my class. It was a bit comforting. We chatted after class and got to know each other a little for about 10 minutes. She was really nice & sweet and we are both new to instructing so we were sharing some tips together. She was thin & fit. The whole time we were talking, I was so excited to have made a "fitness" friend. And she looked to be around my age which was a plus. She had mentioned that she had 3 kids and I was like wow! She's still in great shape.
Anyway, I went and requested her to be my friend on facebook and I saw that she graduated high school in 1993. Uhhhhhh, in 93 I was 9 years old which would make her.....37? I couldn't believe it. I seriously thought she was around my age! It just reminded me of how much fitness is important to looking youthful. I want to look like her when I'm 37! I better stick to this fitness thing I got going on here so I can continue to look young. That's all. Thanks for listening to my thoughts for the day :)

My breakfast
I wanted to post this on Facebook but I just have too many thoughts to share. I want to share my breakfast with you. Which I do often if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or instagram, but I would like to talk a little bit about the choices I make and why.
Okay, so it's Saturday today and I normally cook a big breakfast because it is the only day of the week that my husband & I get to eat breakfast together. But today we are having a barbecue with some leaders from our youth group and I want to save my points. This meal is 4 points plus and 260 calories. Oh, by points I mean Weight Watcher points. I have been successful on the program and am currently in maintenance mode for 2 more weeks. FYI, this can benefit from anyone (not just weight watcher members). Okay, enough babbling.
The first thing I want to share has nothing to do with the food I chose. It's about saving points or calories or whatever until later. I want you to know that is NEVER a good idea to eat NOTHING because you are going to eat a lot later. I used to do that in my younger days (yes I said younger) and it only hurts your body. It is good to be conscience and plan for a bigger meal, but you must eat something. Fruit and vegetables are always a good choice and even a piece of whole wheat toast with your choice of topping. Okay, now to the food. Is it ridiculous that I have so many thoughts about food? I think it is, but I am not going to lie, I LOVE food! So much, that I actually had to learn how to have a healthy relationship with it. Ugh! Enough with the babbling again...
Coffee cake. Not much to say about the coffee cake. This particular one is a weight watchers product you can buy at the store. It's small because...well, our portions are distorted and we are used to Starbucks sized coffee cakes which you don't even want to know how many calories are in those. None the less it was tasty and fast enough for me to find the points plus value right on the box. I prefer to stay away from processed foods now,(that's a whole-nother blog) however I am learning that it is a big process to get rid of them. I am doing it slowly, one item at a time.
Banana. No brainer. On the weight watchers program all fruits & most vegetables are free and you are supposed to get 5 servings a day. I would have to say that is the biggest change weight watchers brought into my life. I eat more fruits and vegetables than I ever have in my life! So, I eat a fruit with EVERY breakfast. It's healthy and it helps me get more full and stay full longer.
Coffee. Eh, what can I say about the coffee? It's a part of my everyday life. Now, I am talking about black coffee. Black coffee is zero points. But this is where people make mistakes....CREAMER. During the week I drink black coffee with 2 sweet n lows (I have slowly made the switch to Truvia) but on the weekends I splurge and use flavored creamer! Mmmm, we have so many different kinds and I look forward to Saturday mornings with my creamer...I mean, coffee with creamer. I can't stress enough how important it is to measure out your creamer. Creamer is very fatty and if you are eye balling the amount, you are most likely putting too much in, and then tracking it incorrectly. Most creamers are 1 point for 1 tablespoon. Get the tablespoon out and measure it! And do this with everything! You are never going to be good enough to be your own measuring cup. I will post later about why I feel so strongly about this.
So, hmmmm, I'm not quite sure how to end this. It's actually kind of awkward now that I am looking at this long blog about a banana, coffee and cake. But I hope it benefited just one person. And if it did, then I am happy. And if it didn't, then I am still happy because I am writing about something I love...food :)

Weight loss update...
Wow! Why is it so hard to stay up to date on blogging? I love it. I just wish I had the time. There's so much I want to share with everyone.
My weight loss journey is going great! Since February of 2011 I have lost 26 lbs! 19 of those have been thanks to Weight Watchers. A few weeks ago I officially lost 10% of my body weight (which is the first goal they give you). And since I hit that, I am officially in the "normal" range for my BMI. So, now I have to figure out what I would like my goal weight to be, which I'm having a hard time trying to figure out. Honestly, weight wise, I feel great. But I would like to concentrate on my fitness more so I can gain some muscle and get rid of my "fat" on those problem areas. You know what I mean...that pudgy stomach, arm & back fat. After talking to my leader when I hit my 10% goal, I decided to lose 5 more lbs. I am about 2 lbs away from that goal. Once I reach that, I will go through a "maintenance" phase where weight watchers will give me more points that I can eat in a day and I will have to maintain my weight for 6 weeks. That means weighing in for 6 straight weeks without gaining or losing more than 2 lbs. After the 6 weeks, I become a LIFETIME MEMBER! That means I can continue to go to the meetings without paying! If you know me, you know that's a huge motivating factor! Anything to save money :)
I started weight watchers May 27 and to date I have lost 19 lbs. I have learned so much about myself and the nutrition in my life. I can't thank weight watchers enough. I am finally at my PRE-wedding weight! I hope once I meet my weight loss goal I can pay it forward and inspire others to get fit and healthier.
Okay, so now that you have followed me this far and read this much, are you ready to hear my stats???
This is obviously a picture of me at my wedding:
Weight: 140 lbs

And this is a picture of me 6 months after our wedding:
Weight: 165ish

And here we are a few weeks ago:
Weight: 142 lbs

Today, I am 138.8 lbs and my weight watchers goal is 137. Almost there! I hope to reach it by the end of next week. I hope this inspired you and let me know if there is anyway I can help you on your weight loss challenge.

Thanksgiving countdown
Great article I got from weight watchers written by: Elly Trickett McNerney
Follow this “to do” list all month long to stay on top of your holiday game plan.
Some people thrill at the thought of hosting Thanksgiving; others pall at the notion of gigantic, slippery turkeys, solid logs of canned cranberry and a house full of guests. Whichever group you fall into, we’ve taken the guesswork out of it with this checklist.

Early November
*Plan your menu – decide which items can be made ahead of time and frozen.
*Make sure you have the proper kitchen equipment, and plan out your cooking times. You won’t be able to put everything in the oven at once.
*Prepare guest list and send invitations.
*Familiarize yourself with our Best-Ever Slimmed-Down Turkey and Gravy recipe.
*Figure out what size turkey you’ll need, and order it.
*Make turkey stock and freeze it.
*Decide on your table setting/room décor/music, and pick an overall theme.
*Put together a list of kid activities to keep them busy.
*Because it’s a busy time be sure to create a workout schedule – it will keep your weight-loss on track and help with stress. *Even on the most time-crunched days, you can fit in a 20-minute walk.
*Ask for some of your guests to bring dishes so you don’t have to do it all.
*Make a double batch of low PointsPlus® values soup, and a warming casserole or lasagna, and freeze in single and double-size portions so you’ll have a few homemade meals ready for that last week. Try this Spicy Black Bean Soup, a Greek-inspired *Meat Moussaka or the delicious and easy Slow Cooker Lasagna.
Saturday November 19
*Go shopping for make-ahead or non-perishable items including drinks.
*Clean the house.
Sunday November 20
*Have a fun family day — go for a bike ride, have a chilly weather picnic (think soups in a flask and bundling up in layers), or just chill out with some board games and Mulled Apple-Cranberry Cider.
*Make pie crusts, cakes, bread — and get the family to help.
Monday November 21
*Prepare table setting — polish silver, make sure glasses sparkle, press linens, assemble serving platters.
*Start defrosting turkey.
*Make the Cranberry-Orange Relish
Tuesday November 22
*Get a start on side dishes. This frees up your counter space!
*Make the Stuffing with Sage and Chives — it keeps for three days in the fridge.
*Assemble the Pumpkin Pie with Graham Cracker Crust and Caramel-Apple Tart.
*Shop for remaining food items such as bread, salad greens
*Make ice cubes.
Wednesday November 23
*Steam the Brussels sprouts and prepare the turkey bacon for the Brussels Sprouts with Chestnuts.
*Make the Dark Chocolate Cake
*Defrost turkey stock.
*Set the table.
*Chill beer, soda, white wine.
*Treat yourself to a mani/pedi or a blowout.
Thanksgiving day
*7:30am: Take the turkey out of the fridge. Double-check when you need to put your turkey in the oven, remembering to leave enough time for preheating.
*8am: Have a hearty breakfast with plenty of protein and fiber, like this Asparagus, Bacon and Cheese Strata, to keep you going while you prepare the meal, and to cut down on the likelihood of nibbling.
*10:30am: Prepare the Apple-Topped Mashed Sweet Potatoes, put in the fridge.
*12:30pm: Have a light lunch low in PointsPlus values to keep you going so you don’t overdo it at dinner. Take some time after your lunch to have a cup of tea and read a book, even if it’s just 20 minutes hiding in the bathroom. Make it known that interruptions are unwelcome — and unwise!
*2:30pm: Put the Apple-Topped Mashed Sweet Potatoes in the oven.
*3:00pm: As guests arrive welcome them with appetizers, low-fat cheeses, olives, wine, and 0 PointsPlus values dips.
*3:15pm: Put the Stuffing with Sage and Chives in the oven.
*3:30pm: Take the turkey out of the oven, make the gravy.
*3:45pm: Finish making the Brussels Sprouts with Chestnuts.
*4pm: Bon appétit!
*6pm: Rouse your household for a brisk walk — minus two designated clearer-uppers. (They can earn activity PointsPlus values for cleaning if they do it with gusto!)
*7pm: Make sure leftovers are safely stored. If you’re feeling generous, prepare doggy bags for guests.
Friday
*Check out the Food and Recipes section of WeightWatchers.com for creative ways to spruce up leftovers.
*Plan your food and activity for the weekend — many people fall off the wagon, often because they feel they’ve been “good” on Thanksgiving itself.
*Get a good workout in, to motivate you to stay on track between now and the holidays.

10 Pet Safety Tips for the Holidays
When celebrating the winter festivities, don't forget to keep holiday pet dangers in mind. It may require some changes to your normal decorating or dining routine, but these tips can help you create a pet-safe holiday that is fun for the whole family.

10. Practice fire safety. Nothing looks nicer than a Thanksgiving table aglow with candles. But be sure to never leave any fire unattended particularly when you have pets in the house. Not only can curious whiskers get burned, if a candle is knocked over by a wagging tail, it can lead to a serious fire.
9. Hoard the people food. Although it’s tempting to give your pets a taste or two from your Thanksgiving plate, too much human food can be bad for your pet’s health. For more about what people food to share and not to share over the holidays, click here.
8. Hide the breakables. Holiday feasts can mean bringing out treasured items like Great Aunt Mae’s fine china or your finest stemware. Just remember that your beloved pets don’t know the value of these items, and they could get broken. So if you have favorite, breakable decorations or table settings, be sure to keep them out of reach.
7. Watch out for toxic plants. Many holiday plants, including mistletoe, holly, poinsettia, and even that beautiful Thanksgiving centerpiece of lilies can be toxic to pets. If you must decorate with these holiday pet dangers, keep them well away from curious paws and mouths.
6. A toast to everyone’s health. When you raise that glass of holiday bubbly, be sure to place your unattended alcoholic drinks where Fluffy or Fido can’t sneak a taste. Alcohol and pets simply don’t mix. If ingested, your pet could become weak, ill, go into a coma or worse.
5.How sweet it isn’t. Although many people like to leave out chocolates for visitors throughout the holidays, it’s important to remember that these sweets are major pet dangers. Chocolate is tasty for you, but it’s toxic for Fluffy and Fido.
4. Keep the lights high. Many people enjoy decorating with strings of lights during the holidays, but do so with caution. Twinkling lights make a shiny toy, but they’re not safe to play with or chew on. Keep your celebrations shock-free by hanging lights up high.
3. Don’t decorate with food. Strings of cranberries and popcorn can be a beautiful way to liven up your household, and a fun project to do with your kids, but they’re holiday hazards for pets. Even if the food on the string isn’t toxic for Fido or Fluffy, they may end up eating the string—and that can cause serious health problems.
2. Steer clear of tinsel town. Tinsel is more than just a glittery decoration. If your pets eat it, it can cause intestinal problems that require a trip to the veterinarian.
1. Wrap it up. If you like to display your holiday presents, watch out for ribbons, bells, and other small toys that can present a choking hazard for your pet. If there are any dangerous-looking gifts, it may be a good idea to hide them safely in a closet until it’s time to open them—or open them right away. After all, no one can accuse you of being rude if you’re doing it to have a pet-safe holiday.

M.A.C. Ice Parade
Okay, I LOVE M.A.C. Make-up and right now they have their new holiday collection for sale called Ice Parade. They come out with new collections all the time and I normally look, but don't buy. However, I have to share with you this one because they have a brush kit on sale! And when they are on sale you have to take advantage. I got my first brush kit over5 years ago and it still works great! It is worth the money you pay for good brushes. And if you were to buy them all separately you would pay a lot more. Here are some of the kits, and they come with a cute bag

Take a look at the make-up sets too. They are all a great deal, and honestly the only time I splurge on M.A.C. is when they sell these sets. Happy shopping!

Turbokick Instructor Training
Well, if you know me, you know I LOVE Turbokick. Turbokick is a class I started taking at 24 hour fitness back when I was 19. Ahem, that was 8 years ago. It is my favorite class at the gym! When I was 21 I used to take a 5:30 am class at my gym and one morning my instructor was being watched by a manager, I assume. After the class, the manager approached me and gave me her card. She told me my form and energy were great and 24 hour fitness was having a training in a couple of weeks and that I should consider it. I thanked her for the information and I though about it. I thought, well, sine I am doing the class anyway, I might as well get paid for it right? So, I thought I would do it, but when the day came, I realized I had another engagement on that day, so I missed it. I have done turbokick on and off at the gym ever since.
Then last August, I weighed myself and when I saw that I had gained 25 lbs since I got married (in less than a year), I made a serious choice to lose weight. I started going back to the gym which of course meant gong back to my turbokick class because it was a high intensity work out and so much fun!
Sometime a few months after, I was introduced to a company called Beachbody. Beachbody is the company that is responsible for making workout videos such as the popular P90X & Insanity. As I did research on Beachbody, I became a club member so I could discounts. I also found some products from Chalene Johnson. And as I did research on her I found that she was the inventor of TURBOKICK! She is also a motivational speaker, which is right up my alley. I fell in love with her, lol. Okay not literally, but I have learned SO much from her about fitness, productivity, positivity, motivation.....etc. I ordered her newest workout video Turbofire and with the help of that, the gym and weight watchers I have lost 19 lbs.
So, with all that babbling and background information, my point is, since I am in better shape now, I have decided to go for the Turbokick instructor training. I have been practicing in classes at 24 hour fitness and at home with Turbofire and I am pretty confident I can do it. The only thing that is making me nervous is that I have no idea what to expect. It is an 8 hour training so I hope I have enough stamina. Any encouraging words would be helpful from you. Here is a video of what I will be doing if I make the cut....

Mail!
Unless I am expecting something (like some lia sophia jewelry), checking the mail is a chore. I hate getting junk mail & bills. I'm not sure why I have so much mail everyday. Anyway, today was different, I got catalogs! I love getting catalogs! It's where I get all my fashion tips and make-up tips! I just look at the models and copy their looks with less expensive items. These are some of the things that came in the mail today (excuse my crappy camera pictures):

Ulta is the girly-girl's sanctuary. I could spend hours in this store. And sometimes I do. I get a bit overwhelmed at times, but it's only because I want everything and can't afford it. There are so many things I want to try out everytime I browse around.
One thing I love about this piece of mail is, right off the bat, you get a coupon. I love these! I never buy anything from Ulta unless I have a coupon, because they give you one once a month! They are dependable.
The second thing I love about this catalog is it's PINK! Yes, pink as in color, but what I mean is pink for national breast cancer awareness month. If you don't know, October is national breast cancer awareness month & tons of businesses join the cause and go pink. Ulta's whole catalog highlights their pink items and they also have a goodie bag valued at $598 they are donating to someone who enters their raffle for only $1. My favorite "pink" item is the 4 piece Ulta professional travel brush set complete with a cute pink bag for only $15! Good brush's are a must for applying make-up effectively and that's a steal!
Have I bored you yet? Good. The next thing I got was the Fall Victoria's secret catalog!

Victoria's secret! You know what that means.....COATS! Haha, you thought I was gonna say undies, huh? I LOVE Victoria's Secret coats ever since I bought my first one in 2008. To this day, it is my favorite coat and is still in tip top shape. I buy my coats online because they offer online codes for discounts and free shipping. And right now, all coats are 20% off! This one's my fav:

Oh my goodness, se what an exciting day it is, there's more! My October issue of Marie Claire! This is where I get all my fashion tips. I cut out pictures of outfits I want to replicate & look for boots! I LOVE boots & coats!

Next up! My Mary Kay catalog. I use Mary Kay's anti-aging products which is probably why people never guess that I am 27 :) I have young looking skin. And I intend to keep it that way. I love that the catalogs show you exactly where to put your make-up. It's very helpful and easy to learn that way, if you are not familiar with putting on make-up. Here is a link to the catalog

Last, but not least, KOHLS! I LOVE kohls! It's the only place that rewards me for my shopping! I only shop there when I know they are giving kohls cash. That way everytime I go, I am getting a discount! And of course, I will use this $10 off card that came in the mail. Duh!

Phew! My fingers are about to cramp up from all that writing. I'm going to bed!

Nailed it!!!
Okay, so I have more nail polish than I know what to do with! So, I am currently obsessed with having my nails look clean and polished at all times. How the heck do the Kardashians do it? I'm not sure if I am the only one, but I just can not keep my nail polish on for longer than a day without it chipping. I wash dishes almost everyday and um, yes, I take a shower everyday. All that water leads to the ends of my nails chipping. I have yet to find a top coat that keeps my polish on. So anyway, I've had a lot of suggestions to try Sally Hansen Salon Effects and I haven't tried them yet. I found a great deal online from Deal Pulp which is another "deal finder" website I am subscribed to and right now they have some patterned nail strips on sale for $5.50. You can check them out here. I am going to buy some and I'll let you know how they work. And if anyone can comment and let me know if you've used any of these and if you like them. That would be very helpful. Thanks a bunch!

Dedicated to my mom
Today is my mom's birthday and I thought I'd do a little something special and dedicate this blog to her.
She is incredible. The best mom I could have ever asked God for. My brother & I are blessed beyond belief to have such a caring and loving mother. And so are our spouses. Every year I get older I appreciate her so much more. Here are some of her great qualities:
*Caring
*loving
*compassionate
*giving
*smart
*fun
*fashionable
*dedicated
*motivated
*organized
*natural leader
and I'm sure if you knew her you could add a lot more.
I love our times together. Every other week we go grocery shopping together and she has taught me many tricks. I look forward to telling her how my week has gone and I can give her all my random thoughts and she listens. I love calling her at work in the morning when I remember something I have to tell her. She is my best friend.
And of course I LOVE our shopping dates. For as long as I can remember, we have always gone shopping together and it hasn't changed. I used to love back to school shopping the best. She is my favorite partner. Actually, she is my only shopping partner. We love to shop when there is a sale and can save money!
When she knows I'm coming over after work she always has food prepared. I love that she thinks of those little things.
She does so much more than I can explain and in my adult years I would always think to myself, "I will pay her back someday" but in all honestly, there is no way I can ever pay her back. She has done so much for me all these years and I can never come close to doing for her what she has done for me. All I can do is promise that I will do the same things for my children and let them know to thank their grandmother for giving me such a great life. And Jesus of course.
Mom, if I haven't told you lately how much I love you, here it is. I love you more than I can show or say and I hope today is filled with all the joy and happiness God can give you because you deserve every bit of it. Happy birthday!

Las Vegas to San Francisco
Wow deal! Right now you can book a flight to San Fran for $119 round trip. I so wish I had money for this right now. I absolutely LOVE SF! We had such a blast when we went last year for Labor day. We stayed in this little (and when I saw little, I mean little) hotel in Chinatown where every morning we would wake up to some sort of asian violin sounding instrument. We took the bus and cable cars every where and ate lots of delicious food. I mean, of course being the foodies we are we researched all the great food spots from the food and travel channel. Sigh. Anyway, here is the deal if you want to take a last minute trip. Ask me for recommendations.

Sick & blogging
Hi there! Thought I'd just update my friends & family on my oh so wonderful life :)
I am at home right now, in bed sick with a viral infection. Actually, I am feeling a lot better today that I have the past 2 days. Yesterday was the worst. I was at work, wearing two sweaters, wit my portable heater on and I was literally shivering. My whole body was aching and I was feeling nauseous. I left work early and drove to my parents house without the a/c on and it felt good. For those of you who live in Las Vegas, you know why it's a big deal that I mention that. I took a nap until my doctors appointment and when I woke up I was sweating like I just ran a marathon! I had a temperature of 101.6. The doctor could hear my stomach rumbling and gave me an anti-viral medication that I started last night. Along with doing the whole switch-a-roo with tylenol & ibuprofen for my fever & lots of gatorade, I've been feeling a lot better today.
Happy to say I've lost 2 lbs since I've been sick, lol. Juuuuuust kidding. Definitely not the way I want to lose weight. But my weight-loss has hit a plateau and this week I was supposed to be tracking and measuring everything I ate and take to my weight watchers leader so we could see where I was going wrong. However, due to my sickness that will have to wait until next week. I am still down 8 pounds and my goal is to continue to lose 3 lbs per month until March 2012 and I will be at my final goal! I am very excited about that! I love this process because I am learning so much about portion control and how important it is to watch what you're putting in your body. And I am loving working out again. When I started working out at age 20 I really enjoyed it then when I got married I dreaded it. But I am back to loving it again. I love my turbofire & I am training myself to become a turbokick instructor in November. I can't wait. A little nervous, though.
I also want to train to run a half marathon in December here in Las Vegas. I've done a 5k before and now I want to take another step. Only one thing....I have no idea how to train. I don't know much about running. WHat kind of shoes do I wear? What's the best clothing? When's the best part of the day? How do I stretch? I need help on these things. Hopefully i can find a running partner.
Anywway, that's a little update on me. I wish I had time to blog everyday. I have a lot of thoughts I could share. And if you know me, that could be good or bad :)
See ya soon!

My weight loss journey
So, I have been on my weight loss journey since last August. I have been doing different things to lose the weight (because I get bored fast) but the constant is eating well & exercising. I have not done diets. I hate diets! They all work of course....but only for a short amount of time, then most people gain the weight back, so I am totally against diets! I am all about working out wether it be at the gym, a workout video or outdoor activities. Just as long as you're doing it consistently. Last Summer I was very good at going to the gym, then I got busy. So, I have been doing my turbofire workouts at home (which I absolutely love).
My parents joined weight watchers in January and they were both doing so great. So my sister in law and I decided that we were going to join and keep each other accountable. I am now on my 8th week and I have lost 7.4 lbs. I absolutely LOVE the program because I don't have to cut anything out, I just need to make healthier choices and every once in a while I can splurge on a dinner out with my hubs if I want. It truly does teach you how to change your eating lifestyle. I will definitely stay with the program and continue to go to the meetings because they are so motivating. I hope to be a leader one day.
So the result of my journey so far is.....I have lost 15 pounds since last August. Not bad huh? I would like to lose 15 more but I will be happy with 10 :)

6 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Kitchen
I got this from my monthly Beachbody newsletter & thought it would be a good read for you.
By Joe Wilkes
It's almost springtime, which for a lot of us means it's time to do a deep-clean of our homes—throwing out the old, organizing the new, storing the winter clothes, and getting ready for warmer weather and a fresh start. For others, it's the beginning of another season of denial about how squalid our living conditions have become. Even more than New Year's, spring is a good time to make some new resolutions and create an environment that'll make us want to keep them. Here are some ideas for getting your kitchen into shape.
Out with the old. I like to think of my refrigerator as a cabinet of hope. Most times, it's full of fruits and vegetables, purchased in a fit of confidence that I would steam and stir-fry my way to a slimmer me. Then I end up going out to restaurants with friends, and my Sunday produce ends up looking pretty bad by week's end. Yet, unbelievably, I leave it all in my refrigerator with the hope that it'll somehow return to a state of edibility. Similarly, expired dairy products and aging condiment bottles litter my shelves, the result of my misguided optimism that they too will come back in fashion—like my '80s wardrobe will, if I just wait long enough. I'm here to tell you, however, that there's been no grocery miracle in my refrigerator these many years. And now, it's time to give the expired residents of this frosty food hinterland a proper burial.
First thing to do: Get rid of everything that even looks old. Be merciless. If it's past the expiration date, throw it out. If it doesn't have an expiration date, throw it out. Another scourge in my fridge is the many plastic containers filled with leftovers. I don't remember exactly what meal they are left over from, but I can't recall anything that included frizzy mold as an ingredient. Much of the reason the containers languish in the back of the fridge is because I'm avoiding the horror of having to wash out the science experiment they've become. This year, I'm going to throw money at the problem, and throw out the leftovers in their containers without ever lifting the lid. Then, I will treat myself to shiny, new plastic containers as a reward for my new hygienic lifestyle. Additionally, if my plastic cutting boards are beyond bleaching, it's a good annual tradition to replace them.
Out with the bad. While I'm gripped in the mania of throwing away all the food that has literally turned to garbage, I'm also going to throw away the food that's metaphorically garbage. All the unhealthy snack foods that lure me away from my healthy eating plan are going to have to go. I'm evicting the half-full bags of tortilla and potato chips from my cupboards. Ben and Jerry's® are moving from the freezer to the dumpster. Any empty-calorie snacks I can steal a spoonful or handful of and pretend they don't count have to hit the road. Once I clear the cupboards and refrigerator, I can go to the store and load up on healthy staples, whose temptations I won't have to resist.
In with the new. Now that the refrigerator's clean and the cupboards are bare, it's time to shop. Stock up the larder with delicious, healthy foods from the first two tiers of Michi's Ladder. And make sure to get lots of easy-to-prepare snacks to keep within easy reach when hunger pangs hit. Great snacks include cottage cheese, nonfat yogurt, hummus, salsa, and raisins. Instant oatmeal, whole-grain cereals, and egg whites are good to have on hand for breakfast. And foods like brown rice, dried beans, canned broths, water-packed tuna, and frozen fruits and vegetables are good staples to always keep in supply for mealtime. Of course, you should also try eating plenty of fresh produce, seafood, and lean meats. Just don't be like me and go crazy at the Sunday farmers' market only to have to throw food away at the end of the week. Buy enough perishable items to last a couple of days, then make short trips to the supermarket or farmers' market during the week. Your food will taste better and fresher, and you won't have a CSI episode in the crisper drawer at the end of the week.
When life gives you lemons . . . I know I've talked a lot about throwing all your produce away. But some of it can do a little cleaning work for you before it hits the compost bin. Lemons are very acidic, and their juice is naturally antibacterial and antiseptic. You can use lemon juice to bleach countertop stains and shine up metal. And it makes your kitchen smell lemony fresh to boot! Instead of throwing those lemons in the trash, throw one or two in the garbage disposal and grind away. It'll help get rid of food dried onto the blades while filling your kitchen with the smell of lemons. (If the lemons are really old and the rinds have turned hard and leathery, don't try this. The disposal blades might not be able to chop them, and they'll just rattle around in your disposal forever. Trust me, I know.) Another great tip a friend gave me is to cut a bunch of lemons in half and put them in a big microwave-safe bowl filled with water. Then microwave the bowl of lemons on high for a few minutes, until the water steams. Keep the microwave closed. The lemon-juice-infused steam will permeate all the stuff cooked onto the microwave walls from various exploding culinary attempts. The crud will wipe off easily and your microwave will smell great. Best of all, no toxic cleaners will accidentally find their way into your meals!
Vinegar—not just for salad. While you're cleaning and staying nontoxic, try using the Michi's Ladder top-tier favorite vinegar to spruce up your kitchen. Diluted with water, white vinegar can be used to clean windows, wash floors, and wipe countertops. It cuts grease and removes stains from cookware, and if you run a pot full of the vinegar and water solution through your coffeemaker, you'll be amazed at the kind of hard-water deposits it removes. It's also good for removing hard-water stains on your glassware. It even cuts soap scum and kills mildew, so you might give good, old-fashioned, cheap white vinegar a try before investing in expensive cleaners that can introduce toxins into your kitchen.
Baking soda—not just for baking. Here's a fun fact. Did you know that baking soda mixed with grease makes soap? It's true. It's a great, cheap, nontoxic way to wipe off your stovetop and the surrounding areas that have been spattered by a season's worth of stir-fries. An open box can absorb odors in the refrigerator, and a little sprinkled in your garbage can will do likewise. If you have a grease fire, you can put it out with baking soda. If you have pots with burned-on food, let them soak in baking soda and water overnight. Also, if you have plastic storage containers that are a bit stinky from their previous occupants, try soaking them overnight in baking soda and water. You can make a baking soda paste with water and polish your silver. It's a miracle product—nontoxic and cheap!
